What Would You Choose?

Matthew 6:19-21

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

If you were given a choice between a mansion and a one-room shack, what would you choose? What if someone offered you a choice between a penny and a hundred dollar bill? The choice is those cases is obvious. You would choose the item of the higher value. But do we do the same as we live our lives and are offered a choice between spiritual things and worldly things?

Far too often, the worldly choice gets our attention because it is right there in front of us. But God urges us to be patient and trust that He has more valuable things in store for us. When we choose to worship Him or sacrifice something in order to please Him, we are showing God that we trust that He does have something better in store for us. That faith will be rewarded in the future if we show that trust in our Lord. We will be rewarded with more than we can imagine.

Hebrews 10:35

“Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.”

—  Sebastian Stroughter
