True Wisdom

Do you want to be wise, or at least wiser than you are now? For years the Bible has been on the “best seller” list.  However, it is sad that although the Bible is one of the most purchased books, it’s also one of the least read.
It seems that we buy Bibles to give to our children but we don’t teach them to read them. We purchase a Bible for ourselves but we don’t find the time to really study it! Paul said in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We should study to find how to obtain God’s approval.
I used to read a lot of paperback novels. The first thing I did after buying the book was to read it from cover to cover! I’d stay up late at night just to read one more chapter. I read that book every chance I got until I finished it! I’m sure this is true of others.
We ought to be just as anxious to read and understand the word of God. But we aren’t, are we? Did you ever wonder why? Do you think maybe it’s because the Bible is not a “modern” novel? Or, perhaps since it has been in our possession all our lives, we don’t consider it too important or interesting?
Do you remember the question I asked at the beginning of this message? The wisdom that we should seek after is that which comes from above. Paul told Timothy (and us) that the holy Scriptures are able to make him wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:15). The Bible is the only place we can find the kind of wisdom that is really worthwhile.
