In Matt.21 tells us about the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Notice in verses 9 and 15, “And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest . . . And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased.” The word Hosanna is an interesting word. It means, “Oh Save!” A word of interjection, “Be propitious.” It is of Hebrew origin like in Ps.118:25, “Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.” The two words translated “Save now” when they are put together makes the word Hosanna. It is defined also as an exclamation of adoration. Truly Jesus is the one that we can call upon to save us. In fact “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” And Jesus said in Jn.14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Hosanna, “Oh Save” indeed is only in Jesus. No man, no organization, no deed(s), no group, no human scheme, no philosophy of man can save us apart from Jesus. Jesus is the Savior, only he can save, Hosanna in the highest! Thanks be to God for his grace, mercy and love that were manifested when Jesus came to this world, to be born into a tabernacle of flesh. To live and grow up among men, and then to ultimately die the agonizing death on the cross, Hosanna in the highest! Let us proclaim to a lost and dying world that salvation that is found in Jesus the Son of God. Then someday in eternity may we gather to give him eternal glory for his mercy and goodness.
