Why do you worship God? Why are you a Christian? Why do you serve God? There are a variety of answers that individuals may offer to these questions. Some answers may have to do with what God has done in the past, and one’s worship or service is a response to His blessings. Some answers may have to do with what God hopefully will do in the future, and one’s worship or service is an anticipatory response to His blessings. But, let me point out that both of these reasons for worshiping and serving God are self-focused and not God-focused.
First and foremost, God is worthy of our worship for one simple and overriding reason–He is God! God is worthy of our service for one simple and overriding reason–He is God! His worthiness of worship and service has nothing to do with what He has done or what He will do for us! It has everything to do with the fact that He “is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome” (Deut. 10:17)! Why do you worship? Why do you serve? Take the focus off of self! Put the focus solely upon Him! He is worthy!
