If you have a spouse, do you remember which of you said I love you first? I do. And, now, I get to publish it for all to know that it was me! I said it first to Marie.
I’m sure that those of you with a spouse can clearly remember who said “I love you” first. It’s an important moment in a relationship, and I think that’s why we note it in our minds. But, truly, it doesn’t matter who said it first. As long as both partners say it and feel it, that’s the key to a beautiful relationship.
Do you know what’s even better? There is a relationship which goes even beyond what a married couple can have, and, in this case, there is no dispute as to Who loved who first.
1 John 4:19
“We love because He first loved us.”
God loved us before we were even born, and His love will go beyond this life. Our love for one another is important, but we would not have that if not for the perfect love that we get from the Father above. God is love!
