Control Your Vessel

On the waterways, each operator is responsible for his vessel and everything about his vessel (what’s in it, where it goes, what it does, etc.). On the roadways, each driver is responsible for his vehicle (or vessel) and everything about his vehicle (what’s in it, where it goes, what it does, etc.). On the pathways of life, each person is responsible for his body (or vessel) and everything about his body (what’s in it, where it goes, what it does, etc.).

Note carefully these words: “This is the will of God, your sanctification…that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor” (1 Thess. 4:3-4).

God’s clearly-stated will for Christians is (1) that we be set apart in all things and (2) that we know how to control our own bodies. As each operator must control his boat and each driver must control his car, each Christian must control his body, to keep it holy and set apart in where it goes, what it does, what it intakes, what it says, etc. Brethren, control your vessel!
