Born A Chooser

I heard an interesting phrase the other day on the radio, the man talked about how all of us are Born a Chooser. I thought about this idea and a couple of thoughts come to mind.
Yes, man is born with the facilities to have the power to choose. Now infants and small children are not morally accountable when they first come into this world. They will come to a time in their life, of what we call the age of accountability. It may vary from individual to individual exactly what age that is. Paul talked about the time before he was morally accountable in Rom.7:9, For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived (or sin sprang to life NIV), and I died. Thus Paul was alive before the age of accountability, but when he reached that moral awareness and fell into sin by the power of choice, he choose the way of sin and died spiritually.
Several verses talk about the power of choice. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15. If man does not have the power to choose as our Calvinist friends say, how did Joshua get so far off in his words? And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. 1 Kings 18:21. Why talk to the people about making a choice to follow God or follow Baal if we cannot really make a choice to begin with? God made us creatures of choice, or if you please, we are Born a Chooser. It magnifies the greatness of God to create such a being that can make choices in life.
I hope we would make the good choice to listen and serve Christ, just as Mary choose to set at the feet of Jesus and listen to his words. But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:42.
