Blessed

Often when we think of blessings we think of what happens to us now. If we get a new car or house we say that we are blessed. If we win a contest or find a new friend, we might say that we are blessed. But if we have adversity in our lives, we might call on God to bless us so that we get through it. If we lose loved ones we ask God for the blessing of His comfort. All of the things mentioned are appropriate. We should acknowledge and ask for God’s blessings always. But we should not forget to put at the forefront the blessings to come.

Philippians 3:13-15
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.

What lies before us is the true blessing. What we have ahead will make the blessings of this life seem meaningless. Let our faith in the Lord help us to remember this and to thank God for what He has already done for us. Praise Him for the blessing of the glory of heaven which is promised to those who follow Him.
